Researchers Prove Back Pain Can Continue For A Year Or More After Injury

After a car accident, even a relatively minor one, it is not uncommon for a person to feel aches and pains.  In many cases, that discomfort stems from the lower back.  Millions of people, for varying reasons, suffer from lower back pain each year and, if you are among them, then you have likely discovered how difficult it can be to overcome the sting.

Researchers have recently verified the fact that back pain has a habit of lingering.  It was discovered that of many patients, over many studies, and many years, very few reported feeling entirely better at the end of one year’s time.  Though initial healing seems promising – patients often report vast gains in strength, mobility, and comfort levels – over the first six weeks, the truth is that once injured, the back does not mend itself quickly.  In many cases, patients can spend the rest of their life with periodic bouts of back ache.

Though the initial six weeks can track great progression, this appears to be a point of plateau and total relief comes very slowly, if ever.

When the cause of the pain is an accident, one should seek immediate medical attention.  Even a minor ache right after impact should be reason enough to head to the ER.  It is important to remember that, although it might not seem horrible in the moment, adrenaline can mask pain.  What is a minor issue moments after the collision might be enough to keep you from work or even lay you up entirely for an extended period of time.  When it is the back at play, the risk of years of aches and pains is a real possibility.  This has been seen time and again with Tampa auto accidents, as well as car accidents everywhere.  It is also essential to report any discomfort to the police at the sight of the accident.  This can help, should you have to take another party to court for help covering the associated medical costs or lost wages.
