Is Your Boss Expecting Too Much?

If you have been suffering from severe or chronic back or neck pain, then you could look to your employer for answers.  A recent study reported that workers who spend too much time trying to balance the responsibilities of family and work can suffer from stress-induced back and neck pain, which can have a drastic impact on everyday life.

The study, outlined in Science Daily, reported on the impact of such work-family stress on medical staff.  The problem, of course, is that these employees (like so many others throughout the world) are being asked to work longer hours more often.  That, of course, has a big impact on their home lives and they are forced to perform a juggling act to keep both work and family operating smoothly.

Nearly 1,200 members of the hospital staff participated in the recent study, which questioned them on the amount of time they spend at work each week, the amount of stress that places on them when trying to fulfill family commitments, and about the musculoskeletal pain they felt from day to day.  Other possible contributors to pain levels were considered to avoid skewed results.  What they did find is that those with the high work-home conflict were the most likely to have neck, back, or arm pain.  Not only are the employees hurt by this continued stress and suffering, the patients could be as well should the medical staff be incapable of maintaining optimum levels of work efficiency.

If you feel that your boss is asking too much of you or that your job is causing you undue physical stress, you should consider the benefits of moving on to a new employer.  If the conditions become unbearable or cause you serious and lasting injury, you may also want to speak to a personal injury attorney about your rights.
